CATCH UP
I’ve definitely been a bit MIA around here! I was in a deep dark hole on my deadline for House of the Dead #2 for like 3 months, and then just when I popped up for air, I got edits on my upcoming middle grade book (THE LAST HOPE SCHOOL FOR MAGICAL DELINQUENTS). Both are due to publish next year, and I’ve been juggling their deadlines for a while now. NEEDLESS to say, I have been busy, but there’s lots to catch you up on, and will probably be even more before BONESMITH publishes next month!
LAUNCH EVENT
I’m so excited to be having a local launch event for BONESMITH! My dear friend owns the cocktail lounge that will be hosting us, but it’s an all-ages event, and I hope those of you in the neighborhood can make it! There will be snacks, drinks, and copies of the book for sale (two days before it officially releases)!
If you’re able to come, please RSVP so we can gauge numbers for food and book sales.
INDIGO SALE
Indigo has chosen BONESMITH as one if its Most Anticipated Canadian books, which means they’ve got the pre-order on sale for 20% off (and 500 bonus Plum points) until July 2nd!
BOOKISH BOX SPECIAL EDITION
In case you missed it, The Bookish Box announced their summer YA titles…
…and they chose BONESMITH for their August book!! I haven’t seen the final version of this book yet, but I’ve seen all the pieces and when I tell you it’s STUNNING, trust me, it’s absolutely GORGEOUS. Completely redesigned cover. Foil. Edges. Reversible dust-jacket. Endpapers. Let’s just say if you’re into the whole spooky, bone aesthetic, you will LOVE it.
Now, listen, there will be other special editions, but one is secret, and one hasn’t been announced yet, so STAY TUNED!
BLURBS!
Some wonderful writers (and publications) have said some wonderful things about BONESMITH! I’ve only shared two of these on social media so far, but I will continue to post them in the lead up to publication!
📚 CURRENTLY READING
The Buried and the Bound - I finished this one a few weeks ago but I LOVED IT SO MUCH I had to share/gush. The world, the magic, THE CHARACTERS. Just get it and read it. TRUST ME.
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries - I just adored this. Perfect grumpy/sunshine romance, fascinating glimpse into faery lore and academia, and definite cozy/found family vibes. The audiobook was great and super helpful because there are words and names I’d never have been able to pronounce in my head.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches - I’m still reading this one right now but if you liked Emily Wilde and/or The House in the Cerulean Sea, I think you’ll like this one too.
📺 CURRENTLY WATCHING
Wednesday - I know, I know. I’m way behind the times, but I loved it, and it was definitely inspiring me as I work on my own story about a school for outcasts…
Kevin Can F*ck Himself - This features our favorite Canadian Annie Murphy, of “Ew, David” fame, in a COMPLETELY different role that was dark and weird and funny and oddly heart-warming. The show had a two-season run and both are out now, and I’d definitely recommend if you’re in the mood for something unconventional.
Okay, I think that’s finally it! Please drop any questions or comments you have below!
